After a year of successful exhibition programming in our new gallery space, Ed Video Media Arts Centre is seeking expressions of interest for our new Gallery Activation series. This program opens our gallery space to regional media artists free of charge in direct response to artists’ diminishing access to presentation space in the city. It also acknowledges the unique circumstances of artists working primarily digitally who may not need consistent access to a physical workspace. (Note that this program is for Ed Video’s gallery space only – information on renting our studio space can be found here.)

We invite local media artists/collectives who are members of Ed Video to submit expressions of interest for self-directed gallery installations or development of new works/works in progress lasting anywhere between 1 day and 4 weeks. We encourage proposals that are experimental, playful, and interdisciplinary. Proposals will be juried based on artistic merit, feasibility, and alignment with our mandate and vision. We define media arts as including but not limited to video, sculpture, audio, multimedia or interactive installation, 2D images or 3D renderings, live or documented performance and XR (AR, VR, MR).

We prioritize artists that are Indigenous, Black, people of color, women, 2SLGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and members of other equity deserving communities. Selected artists will receive use of the gallery space and presentation equipment free of charge for the duration of their project. Selected artists are responsible for proper de-installation of their projects: failure to return the gallery to its original state will result in a fee.

*This project should take place during our regular Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday hours (10 AM to 5 PM). Time outside of these hours may be made available on a case-by-case basis only.

Include anyone helping with installation.
